Rurouni Kenshin
Rurouni Kenshin is the story of a wandering cold-blooded assasin turned jolly and slightly foppish samurai. Himura Kenshin, also known as the Hitokiri Battousai (translation - man in skirt), was once a "hitokiri" killing all who opposed his government and inspiring fear in all opponents. Through a long series of events (which are NEVER told), Kenshin eventually settles down to be a peace-loving friendly super-hero of sorts.
We can only assume that these events involve:
a) A blunt object to the head
b) Too much "swordplay" (bad for the eyes, you know)
c) Or, being sodomized one too many times by "Master Big Papa"
Other characters include the continuously injured Sanosuke (who shows off his head damage with an almost retard-like flair), the arrogant yet small as a 6 year old girl Yahiko, and the "like-interest" - Kaoru. The relationship between Kaoru and Kenshin can best be described as follows: "I like you a lot and can't stand to lose you. On the other hand, you aren't. . . my type. Let's just hold hands for a few years."
Anyway, this show goes on to be a fairly good series, alternating between sad attempts at humor, stupid filler episodes, and very well done drama. The series really starts to pick up after the first season (known as "Arcs" by the otaku), going more into the drama catagory.
Despite Kenshin's shakey background and untold homosexual tendensies between Sanosuke and Yahiko, this is currently among my top-two favorite series'. On the Danny scale - a definite 9 out of 10 men in drag. Great show.
