Serial Experiments Lain
Serial Experiments Lain is a sci-fi drama. Lain is the story of a girl named. . . Lain. Or an android named Lain. Or an alien. Or God. Or. . .? This show is one of the most confusing series' ever which still manages to be enjoyable. It has a cult following which is almost occult.
Lain is a normal girl. That is, until a classmate commits suicide. Lain then recieves e-mail from her now dead classmate. (Isn't e-mail great? Wonder if I can get in touch with Grandma. . .) Slowly, Lain gets pulled more and more into this world of the "Wired". Inevitably, like every teenage girl, Lain is eventually deleted from the world's conscience, never to have existed. I too have plans of doing this some day.
Strewn with metaphors, symobolism, and religion out the wazoo, Lain attempts to be one of the most intelligent animes around. . . and fails. Unfortunately, it does manage to alienate EVERY viewer with an IQ under that of Einstein's. One of the few animes that I find "pompous", ::cough::Evangelion::cough:: I still enjoy this series. Mostly because i can confuse anyone after just three minutes of mentioning it. Watch this one with a bible, dictionary, AND scholar all ready at hand.
Overall, well done and executed. Almost "thought-provoking". The eminent confusion is made up for quickly by the multitude of equally confusing sites dedicated to it. In my opinion, confusion + over-your-headedness MUST = genious. On the Danny-scale, 7 holy, enchanted computer chips out of 10. Not bad.
